Very happy with purchase July 21, 2010 Reid Colson I bought this rack after quite a bit of research and have used it several times, including two 9 hour trips with four bikes on the rack. My experience is mostly positive, with just a few issues.
Positives:
- rack is quite solidly built, very stable and quiet throughout the ride
- the sway feature to move out of the way of the lift gate works well
- I had no problem fitting on 4 adult bikes and it didn't require a lot of manuevering to get them all on
Cons:
- the screw used to secure the rack to the hitch is finicky and takes some patience to align properly
- the rubber saddles seem to wear easily, but even with wear are still supportive
- the arms may not fit inside a women's bike frame, I put one arm in the frame by the handlebars and one in the frame behind the seat to make the fit work
All-in-all, I'd buy this rack all over again. Having lots of fun getting out on the trails.
Great for Road Bike not for MTB April 27, 2010 Morgan Masner This rack is very sturdy and functional and works great for the road bikes. The large cradles really do damage to a mountain bike as it wedges itself into the frame and will really rub the paint. It's a bummer since it's a really nice design at a good price. Softride really needs to change their cradles. Also, the straps are crap, they break all the time, I'm constantly buying replacements.
Good features...OK features March 3, 2010 Danarone (Cincinnati, OH) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Really like the fact that this rack can move away from the back of my Acura MDX so I can open the back. Very solid and well made. Easy installation. The only problem is that the arms are bulky and the rubber blocks are big which really limits the way bikes can fit onto the rack. My wife's Trek Lime was almost impossible without flipping it all around. My ProFlex Carbon Frame MTB was really challenging. My kids bikes (little Trek 16"s) were a pain in the butt. But I think a normal diamond frame road bike with 26" wheels would be a cinch to mount.
Very Sturdy March 1, 2010 Christy L. Roberts (Pensacola) Great Item. We were easily able to fit 4 bikes (2 adult, 2 kids'). We needed the crossbar adapter for the kids' bikes. Very sturdy item. The bikes didn't sway or rattle due to the securing straps. The ability of the rack to tilt sets this bike rack apart!
Love it November 19, 2009 Donna (Chicago, IL) I did some researching before my purchase. Was a little leary of an on-line purchase with out seeing it. Have used it, and have even gotten comments from friends who have similar racks and they like mine better.
