Amazon.com Product Description Get your motor running and head out to your favorite bike trails with the Delta Stableloader rack, which can be used with pick-up truck beds or inside an SUV. The telescoping loading bar system is specially designed for a custom fit from 46.5 to 68 inches wide. It has a fine thread screw adjustment to tightly clamp anywhere you choose against the inside of your pickup bed. Rubber boots on either end help prevent it from slipping. It also features an anti-rotation bracket for SUVs and a stabilizing foot for extra rigidity. Bikes are secured to it much like a roof rack, where the bike's front fork is mounted with a quick-release mechanism. It comes with two lockable fork holders (locking mechanism not included), and extras can easily be added for up to five bikes. Delta Stableloader 2 - Truck bed Bike Rack July 12, 2010 Chaz (Little Rock, AR United States) The Delta Stableloader 2 - Truck Bed Bike Rack is a quality product in my opinion. It does what it is advertised to do. Relatively simple assembly. Holds my bikes firmly in place in my truck. I'm happy with the product.
Do not buy this, please, I made the mistake after reading reviews. May 25, 2010 D. Mercer I read the reviews and thought this product would be perfect for me. I mean, who wants to put a tailgate rack on a truck? The other products are made for one bike which means you have to buy two and then $$$ is too much.
So I thought this would be a good product, and to be honest it still may be.. just do not try and use the parts they send with it.
I received the item, kind of put it together with ease. Tested the fit on my truck and it was great. Then the problem hit. I tried to tighten up all the nuts and bolts and realized they didn't really fit. I checked and double checked the directions and the included parts. The nuts provided are all uniform with the item, the screws the same. The problem is that they fit on the immediate end of the screw but when screwed half way up the screw they get stuck.
Now I have about 300 dollars worth of tools that I attempted to use in order to finish the bolt on the screw or remove the nut from the screw, however, nothing worked. I could show you pictures of the bolt actually bending as I attempted to tighten with a vice grips, after conventional means stripped the nut.
The next problem is that even if you would ship this product back for a refund you have no way of doing that because the darn thing will not come apart.
I mean come on Delta.. you give us no tools, yet you cheap out and give us screws that have to be tightened with a allen wrench (always a great idea lol) and nuts that dont fit the screw, not to mention the nut easily strips after a bit of torque.
Really, really sad I wasted my time on this.
Cheap cost = cheap hardware May 19, 2010 Luis E. Giner (El Paso, TX USA) If you're considering purchasing this item, keep looking. While it may work for some people the unit itself is cheap and looks terrible. The hardware (nuts and bolts) are totally the wrong size and type so much so that while attempting to attach the skewer to the rack, the bolts seized up halfway up the bolt. I had to use bolt cutters to cut the bolts to allow me to release the rack from my pickup. Additionally, the instructions are pretty worthless because they give you images of how it should look not how to assemble the unit.
I've contacted Delta to send me the correct hardware because I don't believe I should have to go by my own hardware for a rack I just purchased.
Spend a little more money for a nicer, better made product. This one is junk.

great way to transport bike January 29, 2010 T. Burgess (Tulsa, OK) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I wasn't sure what I was going to use to transport two bikes in my pick up, not really wanting to have a cumbersome carriage on the back of my truck. When I saw this one, I gave it a shot. The instructions were OK, but it took quite a bit to figure it all out, but having got it together in a dry assembly, I could see it more clearly. Getting it to fit in the truck bed was a bit of trial and error as I wanted to use an existing clamp inside the truck bed to attach a lock, and I had one that was just barely long enough to reach the clamp in the truck and also the bar where the two came together. I though about locking the square bar in the middle somewhere, but then the unit could still be opened at the end and simply taken off, but looping the chain lock through both bars and the truck, it can't be removed.
I did not get the bike locks that are shown in the picture, or in the instructions, which was one thing that threw me at first, but I received the upgraded Delta bike hitch pro 2 locks. Once I had it together, I could see how it works, and I think the other style would be harder to lock where the pro 2 is not going to interfere with the bike itself.
The only downside I can see is in the instructions; they say you can add a lock to the end of the bar to prevent theft, or to prevent it from coming undone, but to be perfectly honest, I can't figure out how one could add a lock to the tightening knob, and to top off that, it doesn't look anything like what is pictured in the instructions, another upgrade? In either case, it wasn't a big deal, just very confusing.
It also comes with 2 stabilizer rods which after I put them on, the threaded rods stuck out over 6 inches, which is good because you have plenty to play with, however, I cut mine down with a hacksaw after assembling them. Use the stabilizers, the system works better with them.
One other thing, the bolts to screw down the brackets that hold the bike frames may be a bit on the cheap side. I had one nut freeze up on me half way through bolting it to the square assembly, could not get it any further on, nor could I remove it. I tightened it as much as I could thinking I had a tight spot, but the bolt then just sheared in two from the force I put on it. I had to get one of my own bolts I just happen to have handy.
Compared to the price of others, this one is a great deal, plus, you can add more locks, in fact I am going to purchase the wheel holders later, for now I'll just put the wheels in the back seat. The reason for the 4 stars was in the poor instructions, since there wasn't anything about the upgraded parts, and very limited on actual assembly.
2-16-2010 update:
After having used this a few times, I decided to update the review here. All I can say is it works great, and is VERY stable. I am very pleased I bought it. One thing I did was to saw off the extra lengths on the support bars, sawing off the extra length screws I mentioned, but the cut off area is not weather proof, so to combat the rust, I added some 5 minute epoxy on the ends to keep it from rusting. As it turns out, this also helps if you accidentally hit the protruding piece with your hand or something. Worth the money.

One more update. The knob on the end to tighten the bars to the truck sides does, and is meant to, slide back in off the nut it goes on, so that you can put a lock on. The spring behind it tensions it enough to keep it where it should be. I didn't know this till today, but it does accept a lock real easy.
The one thing I am going to down grade this product on is the bolt that the knob screws on. Apparently it is not plated, or rust proofed, as after we have had several days or rain and snow, it is rusting. Not a good thing if you want to remove it one day, like if you sell the truck???? When it dries out here, I am going to spray on some WD40 and maybe some petroleam jelly to keep any more moisture off, although I don't think it will do much good now, so we'll see. I may have to wire brush off what rust I can get to first. It is a great unit, but there are a few faults that could easily be corrected, like making the screws stainless, not that much more in cost, but a huge improvement.
Works well for us. December 2, 2009 Kirk We needed a bike rack to use in our truck bed and didn't want to drill any holes. This bike rack works great. My wife is thinking of getting a RAV4 and I think this thing will work for that too; which is good since I plan on selling the truck in a few years.
